Privacy Policy
The Participating Organizations of the Advancing Parkinson's Therapies Campaign (the "Campaign") are committed to protecting your privacy. The Participating Organizations include American Parkinson Disease Association, Parkinson's Action Network, Parkinson Alliance, Parkinson's Disease Foundation, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, National Parkinson Foundation, and WE MOVE. We have developed the following privacy policy for the PDtrials.org website ("PDtrials.org" or "we" or "us") so that you may understand under what circumstances we may collect, use and disclose your personally identifiable information and/or personal health information (together "Personal Information").
A. USE AND DISCLOSURE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
Unless we state otherwise herein or at the time of collection or unless otherwise agreed to by you, any Personal Information you provide us or which we collect: (a) will only be used for the purpose for which you provide it; and (b) will not be disclosed to any other third parties.
B. PERSONAL INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE US
In some cases, you may choose to provide us with Personal Information in order to contact us or to request information. In these cases, we ask that you provide us with only the minimum information needed to assist you (e.g., your email address as a means of contacting you). Some examples of places where you may provide us with Personal Information on PDtrials.org are as follows:
- Contact Us. You may email us directly by clicking on the appropriate link on the "Contact Us" page (see Section D below for more information about these types of links). Please note that our Privacy Policy does not protect you when you send unsolicited content, business information, ideas, suggestions, concepts or inventions to us and such information may be used by us in accordance with our Terms of Use.
- Email Notification Service. To register for any bulletin, newsletter, or news update that we may issue, you only need to provide us with an email address. All other information (e.g., your zip code) is optional. If you submit your email through the Notification Service, we will use your email address to send you our bulletin, newsletter, or news updates and to send you important changes to the website (e.g., Changes to the Privacy Policy or Terms of Use). If you no longer desire to receive our newsletter and important notices, you may follow the "unsubscribe" instructions on our website and/or in the email notifications themselves. If you experience difficulty in unsubscribing, you may Contact Us directly for help.
- Email Page Service. When you click on one of our "Email this Page" to a friend links, we email the article or other content you designate to your friend's email address and list your email address as the sender. We use your friend's email address only for the purpose of sending your friend the email you requested. While we may store both email addresses, we do not use them for any other purpose unless disclosed to you at the time you send the email.
- Request Printed Materials Service. You may request copies of printed materials of interest that we list on PDtrials.org. In order to receive these materials, you may be asked to furnish your name, address, email address, and telephone number, and you may be asked to state whether you are a patient, family member of a patient, or a physician, how you learned of the Campaign, and whether you learned of the Campaign through one of the Participating Organizations. Such information may be collected and used to assess the effectiveness of the Campaign, but your name and address will not be disclosed to any Participating Organization.
C. INFORMATION WE COLLECT AUTOMATICALLY
In order to review the success of PDtrials.org and how it can be improved, we keep regular logs of use of the website and use of our content and services. Information collected includes, but is not limited to, pages viewed, browsers used to access the site, search terms used and various other non-personally identifiable statistical data. This information is only collected and viewed as aggregated data, without reference to individual users. We may share this aggregate statistical information with the participants of the Campaign or other outside companies (see Section J), but in doing so, we will not disclose Personal Information. Some examples of how we aggregate such information are as follows:
- Cookies. Cookies allow us to customize the information we provide according to your profile and preferences. Widely used on the Internet, cookies have become an industry standard. Although a cookie cannot, in and of itself, identify you, it can identify your computer. Your browser is most likely set up to accept cookies automatically. If you'd like to disable cookies, you may do so by adjusting the options or preferences in your browser. However, by doing so, you may lose some of the functionality of our website.
- IP Addresses. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you begin service with an Internet Service Provider. We may collect IP addresses for the purposes of system administration and to audit the use of our website. Each time you log onto our website and each time you request one of our pages, our server logs your IP address. Although we log your session with us, we will not normally link your IP address to anything that can enable us to identify you.
D. EMAIL LINKS
When some of the links on our website are clicked, they automatically open up a new mail message from your Microsoft Outlook (e.g., email links to Trial Coordinators or "Contact Us" links). This is a common feature on Internet websites which we use to enable you to email us and/or third parties directly from your email account. Any message sent this way will be as private a communication as any other email you would send from your email account. Be sure to take note of whom you are sending the message to by looking in the "To:" box of your new message. We may also have put a subject heading in the "Subject:" box and/or attached some content in the body of the message or as an attachment (e.g., "Email a Page"). You can change the Subject heading as well as the recipient of the message by clicking in the appropriate box. In addition, you can delete any attachment or content we put in the message body by simply highlighting the material you desire to delete and hitting the delete key on your keyboard. Unless the message is being sent to us, we will not have access to the content of the message. As with all email, be sure to use caution with regard to what information you are sending and to whom you are sending it. Once sent, the recipient will know your email address and any other information provided in the body of the message or as an attachment.
E. LINKS TO OTHER SITES AND CO-BRANDED PARTNERS
Linking to other sites is an integral part of the functionality of the Internet, including this website. Any link to a page which displays a URL other than "PDtrials.org" in the address window of your browser, is a link to a site outside of our control. This includes links to clinical trials, government websites, our partners and service providers as well as other suggested links. Some of these third party sites may have a similar look and feel to our own as part of a co-branding agreement. Such sites may send their own cookies to you, collect data or solicit Personal Information. Although we strive to ensure the quality of the websites we link to, we cannot guarantee and are not responsible for the content of outside sites or their information collection practices.
Please keep in mind that whenever you give out Personal Information on other websites (for example via message boards or chat), that information can be collected and used by people you don't know. While we strive to protect our visitors' Personal Information and privacy, we cannot guarantee the security and privacy of any information you disclose at other websites, and you do so at your own risk.
F. CHILDREN
Neither PDtrials.org nor any of its content or services is designed or intended to attract children under the age of 13. We will not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under 13 unless we receive their parent's written consent or we are otherwise permitted by law.
G. SECURITY
This site has security measures in place in an effort to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. While you are on a secure page, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to un-locked, or open, when you are just 'surfing'.
Remember to close your browser window whenever you leave your computer. This is to ensure that others cannot access your Personal Information and correspondence, because your computer may be accessible to others or used in a shared setting such as a computer lab, library or Internet café.
Our Privacy Policy does not extend to anything that is inherent in the operation of the Internet, and therefore beyond our control.
If you have any questions about the security at our website, you can send an email to info@pdtrials.org .
H. CHANGES TO OUR PRIVACY POLICY
If our information practices materially change at some time in the future, we will contact you if you have provided us your email address and it is still on record and/or post such change to the website. If you are concerned about how your information is used, please periodically check our website, especially this Privacy Policy.
I. OWNERSHIP AND CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP
This website, PDtrials.org, is owned by the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. The Parkinson's Disease Foundation and the other Participating Organizations lead the Advancing Parkinson's Therapies Campaign. PDtrials.org may be acquired by a third party or merged with another organization. In such case, we may transfer information about you that we have collected pursuant to this Privacy Policy to the acquirer under the condition that the acquirer use the information previously collected only as permitted under this Privacy Policy. Information collected subsequent to such an acquisition or merger may be subject to the acquirer's new privacy policy.
J. CONTRACTORS
Our operations and maintenance contractors may have access to your Personal Information in the course of hosting or maintaining PDtrials.org or providing products or services to PDtrials.org and its end users. These contractors include vendors, suppliers and various organizations that provide us with technology, products, services, and/or content related to better operation and maintenance of our website. In particular, these contractors may have access to your email address (or mailing address if you have provided us with such address for the purpose of receiving certain materials) so that they may send materials to you on our behalf pursuant to this Privacy Policy. Access to your Personal Information by these contractors is limited to the information reasonably necessary for the contractor to perform its limited function for us. We also require that our operations and maintenance contractors 1) protect the privacy of your Personal Information consistent with this Privacy Policy, and 2) not use or disclose your Personal Information for any purpose other than providing us and/or our end users with products and services.
K. LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, we may release your Personal Information to third parties: (1) to comply with legal requirements such as a law, regulation, search warrant, subpoena or court order; or (2) in special cases, such as a physical threat to you or others.
L. YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THESE TERMS
By using this website, you signify your assent to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use. If you do not agree with these policies, please refrain from using our website. Your continued use of this website following a reasonable notice of changes to these terms will mean you accept those changes.
