What Happens if I Find a Trial but Am Not Eligible to Participate?

It is easy to feel frustrated or discouraged and give up if you volunteer to enroll in a clinical trial,  Clinical Trial (Clinical Study)A scientific study involving human participants to determine the safety and efficacy of new therapies or new ways of using known treatments. or several, and discover that you are not eligible to participate. Not everyone is going to be a good fit for every trial. The most common reason for being excluded from a trial is a concern for your safety.

Clinical  ClinicalDealing with or based on observation and treatment of people, as opposed to basic science carried out in the laboratory or in animals. trials are designed to test therapies on a very specifically described patient population. This population is defined by a set of eligibility criteria.  Eligibility CriteriaGuidelines for determining who can qualify to participate in a specific clinical trial. Requiring that all participants share certain characteristics (e.g. age, gender, medical history) ensures that trial results will be due to what is under study and not other factors, helping researchers achieve accurate and meaningful results. Such criteria may be based on age, gender, disease stage, the medications you currently take for Parkinson’s, and other health problems.

If you are initially unable to enter a trial that you are interested in, don’t let that experience deter you from volunteering in other research studies. New studies are introduced regularly, and they require a wide variety of participant types. Don’t be discouraged and don’t give up. People with different types of medical histories are needed. Your participation will be appreciated when you find the right trial!
