“I feel like there is hope, great hope, more hope now than ever before.” –Peggy Willocks, Diagnosed 14 years
Recently Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease?
If you have recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) understanding the disease, and learning about the resources available to you, are good first steps.

Some clinical studies address Parkinson's symptoms. These symptoms are often separated into two categories: movement symptoms and non-movement symptoms.
Movement symptoms include most of the physical symptoms of PD, such as balance, rigidity, tremor, freeze attacks, uncontrollable movements (dyskinesia), slowness of movement (bradykinesia), walking/gait, postural difficulties, writing difficulty, and general loss of motor skills.
Non-movement symptoms include the psychological and emotional symptoms of PD, and some non-motor bodily symptoms, such as anxiety or depression, cognitive mood swings, dementia, sense of smell, vision, memory, weight loss, psychosis, sleep disturbances, hallucinations, swallowing difficulty (dysphagia), muscle pain, masked face, speech problems and loss of energy.
Some clinical studies are designed to investigate potential therapies that address both movement and non-movement symptoms.
There are also studies that do not address PD symptoms. These studies may be observational studies that are examining the nature of the disease or new testing methods, some may be examining a potentially neuroprotective agent (one that slows the progression of the disease), and some may be genetic studies, looking at the hereditary factors in Parkinson's.
