Cell Transfer Study for Potential Cell-Based Therapies for Parkinson's Disease

Official Study Title: Derivation of Primary Donor Cell Lines for Human Cell Reprogramming
Sponsor: Stanford University
Clinicaltrials.gov ID: NCT00553826
Study ID: 10368

Summary

If you are between the ages of 18 and 75 and have a degenerative  DegenerativeGradual deterioration of organs and cells along with loss of function. and/or genetic  GeneticReferring to a condition that is caused by a person's genes (heredity). disease or disorder such as type I diabetes, motor neuron disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), Parkinson's disease  Parkinson's DiseaseA chronic, slowly progressive disease of the nervous system characterized by the combination of tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia and stooped posture, among other symptoms. (PD), heart disease, infertility (azoospermia and premature ovarian failure) and live in California, you may be eligible to participate in Stanford University research study focused on producing disease-specific embryonic stem cell lines to assist in medical research. Study participation is expected to last approximately 1-2 hours and participants will be required to provide a 4 mm skin biopsy from a low visibility underarm region. Cells derived from this biopsy will be used for somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), stem cell derivation or cell reprogramming research under the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) guidelines and any SCNT embryos (blastocysts) produced will be utilized for embryonic stem cell derivation and not for reproductive purposes.
